MISSION AND OBJECTIVES

ASFOR was established in 1971 as the Italian Association for Management Development, with the aim of developing management culture in Italy and of improving management education solutions by constantly adapting them to demand trends.
The Association has over 70 active members, including Universities Schools of Management, Corporate Universities and other Management Education Institutions. All members have to subscribe the "ASFOR Members’ Code of Ethics”.
In June 2010 ASFOR presented the “Manifesto ASFOR 2010: Management education as a strategic tool for Italian competitiveness”.
In addition to its well-developed network with institutions and organizations from the world of management education in Italy, ASFOR is part of networks with international universities and education institutes.

ASFOR has 3 different kinds of members:

  • Full members: public or private legal persons and other bodies  that conduct activities involving the planning, management and control of teaching and research work in the field of management training to a substantial extent and in compliance with quality standards prescribed by ASFOR, or that represent important bodies interested in these activities in the capacity of users of the products and services concerned.

  • Associate members: public or private legal persons and other bodies that perform training or other activities of interest to the Association, while not meeting all the requirements set for full membership.

  • Sustaining members: public or private legal persons and other bodies  that are users of training services or are responsible for economic or social policies in the public and private sectors and that contribute to the promotion of a management culture, also by providing financial or organizational support for the Association’s work.

All are admitted according to a quality selection process.

The Association's objectives are:

  • to promote a process of awareness of the crucial role of management culture for relaunching Italy's competitiveness in the global economy;

  • to strengthen and qualify existing education facilities in order to set up a management education system of flexible institutions that can enhance response to demand and operate in an increasingly complex market;

  • to promote new institutions and education programs, in particular focusing on Italy’s weak socio-economic areas, and raising awareness among players in the areas of politics, economics and culture;

  • to promote the development of an internationalization process of managerial culture that contributes to the integration of the Italian economy, markets and political and administrative systems;

  • to provide contributions and incentives to the process of research for improving the quality of education, promoting projects and initiatives designed to stimulate market growth and the spread of quality standards. In 1989 ASFOR started the "Master Accreditation Process" (categories: Master in General Management, Specialized Master and MBA, Master in Business Administration), in 2005 the "Accreditation Process for e-learning Executive Master" and in 2008 the “Accreditation Process of Corporate Master”.
    PricewaterhouseCoopers serves as member of the ASFOR review team in order to audit administrative aspects;

  • to promote the quality of activities and education processes for Public Administration. To this end, ASFOR has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Italian Department of Public Administration on the "Quality of education services for ASFOR-member schools providing education for Public Administration";

  • to encourage the development of e-learning by defining quality criteria, promoting research and surveys, and developing reference instruments for public institutions and the scientific community. The Association has produced the second edition of the ASFOR Glossary "The words of e-learning", with over 600 words, published on the web site www.asfor.it. Moreover, with the patronage of the Italian Ministry for Reforms and Innovation in Public Administration and the Ministry of University and Research, ISFOL (Institute for the Development of Vocational Education) and SIe-L (Italian Society for e-Learning), ASFOR promotes the Competition "e-Talents of e-Learning" in order to select the best university e-Learning theses;

  • to activate innovative training for management trainers in particular focused on elearning technologies.
